1) Prepare your own Typhoon Survival Kit such as this one: How to prepare a typhoon survival kit

2)  Make sure that your car’s gas tank is filled in case you need to use it to evacuate from your home.

3) Close all doors and windows.  As much as possible, stay indoors to avoid being hit by flying debris because this can be extremely dangerous.

4) Monitor weather conditions and flood warnings via television and/or AM radio news updates.  This will help you determine if you should remain in your home or evacuate.

5) Determine a “safe room” in your home where it would be best for your family to ride out the storm.

6)  Talk about a family evacuation plan so that everybody knows where to go in case you need to leave your home because of flooding: a house of someone you know which is on higher ground, the nearest evacuation center or other safe public buildings.

7) Make sure that each family member know whom to call (friends/relatives residing in a different area) in case you get separated.

8) If your house has been flooded, turn off the main switch which controls your power supply to avoid electrical shorts and fires.  If you need to touch the switch and the floor is wet, stand on dry cardboard or wear rubber-soled shoes.  Unplug all of your electric appliances.  Do not turn on your gas stove.

9)  As soon as it seems like flooding inside your home is apparent, move appliances and valuables to high shelves or the second storey of your home if you have one.

10) If local officials order an evacuation, leave immediately.

11) Do not drive into standing water.  Abandon your car if it stalls in rising water.  Also remember that in times of impending disaster, we can also hold on to our most powerful resource: God’s Word.

"In the day of my trouble, I will call to you, for you will answer me."  Psalm 86:7
