Filipinos in general love to have fun, more so when there’s a fiesta or festival going on.  

 

10. Higantes Fiesta (Angono, Rizal) – November 23
Participants carry stunning 10-feet tall papier-mâche figures called higantes out on the streets where people douse each other with water as the parade progresses.

9. Moriones (Marinduque) – Holy Week

Men wear wooden masks and dress up like Roman soldiers as they recreate the conversion of the centurion who pierced Jesus’ side with a spear.

8. Pintados Festival (Tacloban, Leyte) – June 29
People all over town decorate their bodies with temporary tattoos to emulate the warriors of pre-Hispanic times then participate in street dancing where everybody is welcome to join in.

Street dancing, parades and a frantic fiesta atmosphere characterize this celebration of the city’s harvest festival.

6. Masskara Festival (Bacolod) – October 14-21
nIt’s the ultimate Filipino carnival, with masked revelers pouring out to the streets to dance and celebrate.

5. Panagbenga (Baguio) – Fourth Week of February
Flower Festival celebrated with floats covered with flowers paraded in the streets of the city.\r\n

4. Pahiyas (Lucban, Quezon) – May 15
Residents decorate their homes with colorful pieces of kiping (made of rice dough) and fresh produce to celebrate a bountiful harvest.

3. Ati-Atihan (Kalibo, Aklan)/Sinulog (Cebu)/Dinagyang (Iloilo) – January
Men (and a few women) wear colorful warrior costumes and have their faces and bodies smeared with black paint, then parade through the streets while dancing to the beat of drums.

2. Santacruzan (Nationwide) – May
The most beautiful young women of each town wear their finest gowns and glittering gowns as they parade in the streets to commemorate the discovery of the true cross by Queen Helena and Constantine.
