“Congratulations, your visa has been granted. I can’t believe it either.” Those were the exact words I heard from the consul almost two months ago.
I jumped for joy because I botched up the interview a bit (couldn’t give a straight answer to how much I earned last year because I forgot to total my salaries from the different jobs I held, and even forgot completely to look up how much I earned from the raket that sustained me for the better part of the year!), so I’m still telling people I didn’t get lucky, that visa was really a blessing from God. Suddenly it’s about 16 hours ‘til my flight Two days from now, I’d be hugging my only sister whom I hadn’t seen in six years. A day after that, I’d be running around town with her as I try to fulfill my duties as the only representative of our immediate family at her wedding. I’ve been juggling many things, so I hardly noticed the days go by. Just 16 more hours and I still have a lot to do:
1. Attend a meeting
2. Finish packing
3. Attempt to finish America’s Next Top Model in DVD so that I’d know how to look fieeeerce in my photos
Before taking a bath a couple of hours earlier, I found myself singing a song over and over. I want to say it was “Leaving on a Jet Plane” because it was used in a movie soundtrack (Armaggedon nga ba?), so it’s cheesiness factor is offset somewhat… but unfortunately, it wasn’t.
It was…
Jeez, should I say it?
Maybe I’ll just type up the lyrics here…
Gotta catch that plane at 7:30
Why haven’t you come to say goodbye
Time is running out and I’m still waiting
I’m so lost without you I could die.
And I almost did die when I realized that after 25 years, I still know most of the song by heart! Oh my gulay, nakakahiya! But then, it is a bit funny. And appropriate, because the other highlight of my foray to the U.S. is watching the reunion concert of the second boyband I ever loved (at least they're kinda cool again, unlike Robby Rosa's old group; garsh do you even remember Robby Rosa?).
Oh-oh-ooh-oh-oh, this is going to be a great trip!
